It seems like Tata Motors has a knack for offering different sized-SUVs in India. After the Harrier, Safari and even the Nexon, the home-grown cognomelarate is preparing to offer an all-new mid-sized SUV measuring 4.3 metres in length. As of now, this latest product from Tata’s stable is codenamed the ‘Blackbird’ and it will be slotted above the Nexon and below the Harrier in the company line-up. However, as exciting as it seems, the Tata Blackbird will be seen in Indian showrooms not before the end of this year or early 2023!
Talking about the platform, the Tata Blackbird will share the Nexon’s X1 platform with a coupe-like silhouette measuring around 4.3 metres. It will borrow elements from its bigger sibling, the Harrier as well.
The Tata Blackbird engine is supposed to be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit which is a 4-cylinder version of the 1.2-litre powertrain offered with the Nexon. For comparison, the one offered with the latter delivers 118bhp of power and a peak torque of 170Nm between 1,750 – 4,000rpm while being mated to a six-speed AMT and a six-speed manual gearbox. Expect the Tata Blackbird to punch in higher power and torque figures in comparison!
Once offered in the Indian market, the Tata Blackbird will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kushaq, and the Kia Seltos among others, in an attempt to grab a bite of the extremely popular SUV segment here!
